Measures for Emergency Situations

According to the disaster prevention plan of Mishima City

  • The nearest designated emergency evacuation shelter* (指定緊急避難場所) to NIG is Nishikida Elementary School.
  • The nearest designated evacuation shelter** (指定避難所) to NIG is also Nishikida Elementary School.

* A designated emergency evacuation shelter is a place to temporarily escape from imminent danger of disaster.

** A designated emergency shelter is a facility where residents can stay for the necessary period until there is no more risk of disaster damage.

If you find it dangerous to go to a designated emergency evacuation shelter, please escape to a safer place in the neighborhood or to a higher floor of the building.

JSPS Guidebook: Life in Japan

A bilingual guidebook on "Life in Japan" is issued by JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) to provide overseas researchers with useful information.

Japanese Language Class

Free Japanese lessons are offered to NIG international members who wish to learn Japanese language. If you are interested in taking Japanese lessons, please contact the English Help Desk (info-int@nig.ac.jp).

The lessons are basically conducted as a group lesson, and classes are organized depending on participants’ achievement levels.

Club Activities

The Department of Genetics, SOKENDAI has several extracurricular activities which all NIG members are welcome to join. Lending of Pocketalk Voice Translator

"Pocketalk Voice Translator" is lent to NIG members as a supporting tool for communication between different languages.

It is useful in the situation where
- NIG staff members need to communicate with international members.
- NIG international members need to communicate with non-English speakers outside NIG (at the city office, clinics, hospitals, etc.)

This voice translation device enables you to translate spoken messages from Japanese to English (and other languages) and from English (and other languages) to Japanese.

* Where to lend: General Affairs and Project Team
* Period for lending: Please return it when you are done with it.
   (When borrowing, you will be asked to fill in the return date on the lending list.)
