Sourin Bag

I am incredibly grateful to have been part of the NIG community through the NIG-INTERN program! It was an invaluable experience for both scientific and personal growth.

I had the honor of joining Maeshima-sensei’s lab, where I conducted research on point mutations in the histone variant H3.3 to analyze nucleosome behavior using single-molecule imaging. Over the course of the internship, I gained hands-on experience with a wide range of techniques - from molecular cloning, CRISPR-Cas9 editing, and HeLa cell culturing to performing one of the most advanced imaging techniques available in the field.

I’m deeply grateful to Maeshima-sensei for giving me this incredible opportunity, and I want to sincerely thank Adil for his patient and thorough mentorship every step of the way. I’m also truly thankful to all the Maeshima lab members for their continuous support and insightful discussions during my time at NIG.

Outside the lab, I met incredible people and created the warmest memories of my youth. From enjoying yakiniku dinners to singing at Japanese karaoke, every moment felt full of joy and connection. Tasting the freshest sushi at hidden local spots and attending a traditional summer festival in Mishima - these are the kinds of memories I will carry with me for a lifetime.

One of the highlights of the internship was the NIG retreat: a two-day conference in Gotemba where researchers presented their recent findings. It was truly a unique opportunity to ask questions and learn about the latest advances across diverse fields of genetics and molecular biology.

The NIG Internship Program is about world-class science, discovery, and growth. Moreover, it's a perfect place to meet incredible people and build meaningful bonds that make the experience truly unforgettable. Thank you, NIG, for this indispensable opportunity!
