Center for Frontier Research (CFR) is established in 2006, aimed to raise and support excellent young researchers in National Institute of Genetics (NIG).
Tenure Track System is introduced in this Center to accomplish this mission, young researchers who passed rigorous screening are leave to operate laboratory independently as a Tenure Track Associate Professor, and conducting daily research to open up new fields of genetics and the peripheral region by making the most of NIG’s research environment.

We also have necessary support system in place such as conducting annual/interim evaluation, introduction of the mentor system led by the Center for Frontier Research Committee in addition to the providing research and labor costs to operate own laboratory.

We have support from MEXT “Science and Technology Human Resource Developmental Costs Subsidy” from FY2015, and have been working on decommission and establishment of the Tenure Track System for five years. During this time, we have been making steady progress such as all members who are subjected to the support of the subsidies obtained the Tenure and four of them won “The MEXT Young Scientists’ Prize”.

We will continue to serve as a solid environmental infrastructure and enhance their support that the young researchers can play active role and it will lead to contribute to the growth of the system for human resource development and strengthen the research capability of the institute.
