Requirements

Interns must agree to fulfill the following requirements.

  1. Conform to the regulations of NIG.
  2. Maintain confidentiality of unpublished information obtained at NIG.
  3. Dedicate full efforts to the NIG-INTERN program. Complete assignments, tasks, and projects associated with the internship program.
  4. Participate in the project for the full term of the internship (on a full-time basis, five days a week until the end of the designated term). Work on the days and times agreed with the supervisor.
  5. Adhere to the NIG's regulations including your stay at NIG Guest House.
  6. Give an oral presentation on the scheduled day to report the research results.
  7. Submit an essay and a questionnaire at the end of the internship term.
  8. Submit all the boarding pass stubs of flights arranged by NIG to and from Japan.
  9. Devote yourself fully to research activities. Participation in the program with a tourism-related intent, such as accompanying family, is not allowed.
  10. Interns are required to take the flights arranged by NIG. Any changes to these flights made for personal reasons — except in cases beyond the intern's control (e.g., natural disasters, transportation strikes, or terrorist acts) — will result in the intern being responsible for the full cost of both the original flights arranged by NIG and any alternative flights booked by the intern.

If the conditions listed above are not fully met, NIG shall take necessary actions such as reduction of the financial support and/or termination of the internship.

Financial Support

Unlike previous years, the NIG-INTERN2026 is not a fully-funded program. The costs will be shared between NIG and participants as follows.

  1. The round-trip airfare between the intern's place of residence (location of school) and Japan (actual expenses up to 200,000 JPY)
  2. Travel insurance

  1. Any amount exceeding 200,000 JPY of the round-trip airfare between the intern's place of residence (location of school) and Japan
  2. Domestic travel expenses
  3. Accommodation fee (approx. 70,000 JPY for 39 nights per person) for NIG Guest House
  4. Living and miscellaneous expenses
