4.Time:(oral) 10:50-12:30 on Monday
5.Place:(oral) 3F seminar room of the library in National Institute of genetics6.Prerequisites and Styles:
It is desirable to have the basic knowledge about probability theory and statistics, but it is not essential. It is given as an oral lecture, which will be provided in English if more than one foreign student attends.7.Contents:
Principles of population genetics and molecular evolution. Topics include basic probability theory, statistical analyses, and theoretical, empirical, and experimental approaches to study origins and maintenance mechanisms of genetic diversity. Articles on these topics will be read and discussed.8.Course objectives:
Understanding of fixation process of mutations and roles of natural selection and random genetic drift in shaping intra- and inter-specific variation. Developing of extracting skill of meaningful information from evolutionary patterns of genes and genomes.9.Schedule: (Oral)
Date[lecturers if omnibus] Topic June 18 Toshiyuki Takano Introduction to population genetics and probability theory June 25 Toshiyuki Takano Genome evolution: segmental duplications and deletions July 2 Naruya Saitou Principles of Population Genetics I July 9 Naruya Saitou Principles of Population Genetics II 10.Lecture materials and readings
Articles to be discussed will be announced during the course.11.Grades:
To get credit, one must attend three or more of the four classes. The grades will be either “Pass” or “Fail”, which will be determined by the extent of participation in class.12.Notes:
