Degree Criteria at the Department of Genetics, SOKENDAI

Doctoral degree The Department of Genetics awards doctorate degree based on the assessment of the student's ability as an independent researcher. The doctoral dissertation acts as the primary criterion of this evaluation. An acceptable dissertation must report an original research that contributes to the advancement of the field of life sciences. The research presented in the dissertation must be accepted by a peer reviewed journal, or maintain the equivalent quality. Student must also possess a deep insight that allows one to survey the field and foresee future research, the ability to comprehend, express and discuss science in English, and a high ethical standard as a researcher. Master's degree The Department of Genetics awards master's degree based on the assessment of the the student's knowledge in the field of life sciences and his/her research competency. Progress Report II, which acts as the primary criterion of this evaluation, must report a new result in genetics or a related field. 　 (2007.3.13)

Advancement to the third year Second year students of the 5 year graduate program at the Department of Genetics are allowed to advance to the third year based on the assessment of their knowledge in the field of life sciences and potential to become an independent researcher. 遺伝学専攻における審査評価基準

博士論文審査評価基準 本専攻では，自立した研究者としての能力を有していることを学位認定に際しての評価基準とする。その主要な判定材料となる博士論文では，遺伝学を根幹とする生命科学の分野の発展に寄与する本質的に新しくかつ高度な研究成果を報告することが求められる。研究内容が査読付き学術雑誌にすでに受理されたか、それに相当する内容を含むことが必要である。さらに，分野を俯瞰する深い洞察力，英語で理解・議論・表現する能力，研究の将来を展望する豊かな構想力，研究者としての高い倫理性，を有することが求められる。 (2006.12.12)

特定課題研究審査評価基準（修士の学位） 本専攻では，遺伝学に関して幅広く深い学識を有し、研究能力を有していることを、認定に際しての評価基準とする。その主要な判定材料となるプログレスレポートIIでは，遺伝学に関係する新しい研究成果を報告することが求められる。 (2007.3.13)
