Making Sense of the Science
A Workshop on Effective Scientific writing

This course will be run as a workshop on effective written communication, taught by Dr. Judith A. Swan (Princeton Writing Program). Based on the analysis on how native English speakers analyze written English, this course will offer an effective method of revision for clarity and coherence. The sixth session will explore how to effectively convey information and enthusiasm in oral presentations.

Grades (pass or fail) will be based on attendance. You will get a "pass" grade if you attend five or more sessions. Individual tutorial counts as one session, but the "Special session", to be offered in the afternoon of 3/11, will not.

成績(合格または不合格)は出席で決めます.5つ以上のセッションに参加したものを合格とします.個別添削は1セッションと数えますが,3/11午後の特別セッションは数えません.

Workshopping drafts: Supporting the development of writing in the laboratory


This is a workshop using participants' own drafts as material. The class will discuss a draft submitted by one of the group member. During the workshop, participants will learn how to analyze the draft, as well as how to make effective comments to improve them.
