6.Prerequisites and Styles:
A basic knowledge covered by the lecture of Molecular and Cellular Biology I is preferable, but not mandatory. This course will be conducted in English.7.Contents:
The current status of the structure biology, that tries to understand the working mechanism of proteins and nucleic acids based on their structures, will be described along with its history and future directions.8.Course objectives:
9.Schedule: (Oral)
1. Understanding biological mechanism in terms of structure.
2. Understanding methods of structural analysis.
3. Understanding the current status of structure biology.
Date Topic 1. October 17th Introduction to structure biology 2. October 24th Methods of structure analysis, in principle and in practice 3. November 7th Current status of structure biology 1: structure genomics 4. November 14th Current status of structure biology 2: mechanism-oriented structure analysis 10.Lecture materials and readings
Outline of Crystallography for Biologists, David Blow, Oxford university press, 200211.Grades:
The grades will be A, B, C, and D, which are determined by the quality of short reports which must be written at end of each lecture. The reports will be judged based on whether they met, at least, one of the three aspects in the Course Objectives.12.Notes:None
