Unit 8: Describing Graphics for Maximum Comprehension

Throughout the course we have said that the audience needs to know what the main message is in order to properly focus their attention and process the information we give them. This week, we extend that idea to presenting graphs and charts. Too many students present graphics in their slides and immediately begin explaining details instead of explaining the main idea that we can learn from what we see. In this unit we practice strategies for improving audience comprehension so that our figures can function as effective tools and not pointless decorations.
