Guidelines for Applicants of NIG Postdoctoral Fellow
NIG now invites applications for 2012NIG Postdoctoral Fellow.
1. Aim
The National Institute of Genetics (NIG) seeks to support promising young scientists as
NIG Postdoctoral Research Fellows (PDRF) to advance research in the life sciences.
2. Qualifications
Researchers with a Ph.D degree (or equivalent) can apply to the NIG PDRF program.
Candidates who expect to obtain a Ph.D by the time of employment may also apply,
(employment will be conditional on completion of the degree).
Highly motivated young researchers with strong research backgrounds will be sought.
3. Start date and period of Employment
The period of employment is 2 years (24 months) from the start date.
In principal, positions will begin on April 1, 2012. If necessary, start dates may be shifted to any date prior to October 1, 2012 but this date cannot be changed after submission of the application forms.
For NIG-approved leaves of absence (e.g., childbirth, child care, nursing, etc.),
the leave of absence period will not be included in the period of employment.

5. Salary
Based on the rules of the Research Organization of Information and Systems that is the higher organization of the NIG, annual salary 4,100,000 JPY or more will be paid.
Salary increase is not negotiable. This amount includes taxes and insurance package
(provided by the MEXT Mutual Society of Health Insurance).
6. Application Procedure
Applicants are required to send the appication documents to PI of the Research Groups by e-mail.
(1) Application Documents (Free Form)
(i) Curriculum vitae
Include name, date of birth, age, sex, home address, contact address (such as work address including Department, Laboratory, e-mail address, etc.), education and research/teaching experiences.
If you have not yet obtained a Ph.D. degree, write the expected date of your thesis defencee / examination.
(ii) Summary of past research (max. 2 pages)
(iii) Publication list (Including each paper’s title, all the authors, journal, volume-number and year)
(iv) Title and the plan of research at NIG (2 pages)
State explicitly the goal and the plan of the research for the first year.
(2) Deadline:
The Research Groups in the list of public offering are able to be applied through a year.
Each Research Group should close the public offering as soon as making a hiring decision.

(3) Method of application
Prepare application documents (i)-(vi) as a single file (PDF or MS Word), and send it as an attachment to PI of the Research Groups by e-mail.
* Application documents will be used only for the selection and appointment of
NIG Postdoctoral Research Fellows, and will not be returned.
