Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Division of Evolutionary Genetics)

1. Department:
Department of Population Genetics, Division of Evolutionary Genetics (Akashi Lab)
http://www.nig.ac.jp/labs/EvoGen/
2. Outline:
The central aim of the lab is to study mechanisms of genome evolution with a focus on identifying global adaptations. Previous work has examined the phenotypic bases and population genetics of selection on synonymous codon usage. We have also studied how amino acid composition is adapted to optimize protein synthesis, as well as function.
3. Content of work:
This position is part of a project to study epistatic interactions among weakly selected mutations.  The project combines theoretical studies (population genetic simulations) and large-scale comparative genomic analyses.  This position is funded by a Research Organization for Information and Systems (ROIS) Transdisciplinary Research Integration Center (TRIC) project on “Systems Resilience”.  The postdoctoral fellow will also be encouraged to develop their own projects in the general areas of population genetics and genome evolution.
4. Job type:
Entry-Level Researcher
Comment: A 1-year position with potential renewal for a second year.
5. Qualifications:
A Ph.D degree is required. A background in computer programming or population genetics will be helpful.
6. Treatment:
Postdoctral Research Fellow (PDRF) (discretionary working hours)
4,100,000 JPY or more will be paid per year. This amount includes taxes and insurance package (provided by the MEXT Mutual Society of Health Insurance).
